What do you do with your outdated CDs and DVDs? I microwave mine, They look awesome and you can make some cool art, too.

I love doing this. Thanks for the framing idea. I was thinking of hanging mine by strings and mounting them somewhere.

How long do you microwave them for?

You microwave them for about 10 seconds, until the crackling begins to slow and you can smell them burning. (BTW this is about CDs)

have you ever split the two layers of the cd apart? the foil will have different swirls and such… much cleaner looking then the blocks left by the microwave

Nope, not if you do it for less than 15-20 seconds. I wouldn’t go above that unless you feel like experimenting. ;)
